Animal Bites and Rabies Control

FDOH in Wakulla County

Animal Bites and Rabies Control

It is the responsibility of this office to maintain reports of all animal bites within the county. Through a joint effort with Wakulla County Animal Control, the health department is immediately notified when someone in the county is bitten by an animal, and we record the victim's name and where the event took place. We then monitor certain repeat biters and offer suggestions as to the disposition of the animals. When necessary, this office will send samples to the lab for rabies testing. We also maintain a connection to Animal Control when an animal has to be quarantined, and its condition upon release.
