Successful 5K Walk Run at St. Marks

By WCHD Staff

September 29, 2015

St. Marks Florida- The inaugural 5k walk/run put on 9/26/2015 was a great success according to the DOH-Wakulla Administrator Padraic Juarez.  We had great participation from all over the county.  We had several of our local schools represented and visitors from out of county too.

At 8am, the race began with 46 people taking on the course.  Eighteen minutes later the first finisher came across the finish line.  This was followed by wave after wave of families coming through the finish area.  Our last family came through at forty-five minutes.

The volunteers at the event all credit the sponsors for making this event a success.  There was the City of St. Marks that welcomed everyone.  The Department of Environmental Protection that allowed the race to occur their bike trail.  Jones Plumbing that provided the portalets.  Gulf Winds Track Club that marked the course and provided amazing technical support.

This event was just one of the 67 that were going on simultaneously across the state in each of the counties.  Florida Department of Health is celebrating Heart Health week and their Healthiest Weight campaigns by having events all week long.  The races was just the first of these.  On Tuesday the 29th, in each of the local health departments there will be free CPR classes throughout the day.  For Crawfordville those will be at 48 Oak street starting at 10am.
